ACTIVITIES WITH YOUTH AND FOR YOUTH

Through peer education, young people acquired knowledge on the difference between sex and gender, discrimination and gender based violence, as well as skills relative to the planning of preventive activities within the school or the local community. Having completed the educational activities, the students conducted actions aimed at preventing gender based violence within their schools or local communities, which they had planned during the peer workshops. Also, they kept in touch with our organization, so as to further develop their ideas and material for prevention activities.

During the workshops, many interesting questions, dilemmas, and ideas for dispersing  stereotypes and prejudices were brought forth.

– “A partner relationship among us, young people, always begins as a love relationship. A girl falls in love and grows fond of her partner. The man also falls for the girl, but he loves her in a possessive way, he loves and controls her at the same time, under the pretext that he does it out of love, so that her behaviour depends on his wishes and expectations. And if she does not respond in the way he imagined, it ‘gives him the right’ to express his anger, i.e. emotional and physical violence. Up to this moment, I have referred to this as – great love”, a student from Tutin upon completion of the training.

AKTIVNOSTI ZA NASTAVNI KADAR
ACTIVITIES FOR THE TEACHING STAFF

We also had the possibility to improve the response in prevention and protection against violence in secondary schools by building up the capacity of the teaching and professional staff. Training was organised for the psychologists and teachers of the Technical School and Grammar School in Tutin, conducted by the lecturers of the  Autonomous Women Centre. Some of the topics were recognizing and reacting to gender based violence, upgrading educational practices, syllabi and their contents, as well as advocating for the introduction of policies aimed at combating sexual violence.
